KCC New Media Arts Admissions Process

New Media Arts Application Deadline: April 1

STEP #1: DOWNLOAD THE ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE CHECKLIST

STEP #2 : DOWNLOAD THE SYSTEM APPLICATION FORM (SAF)

The System Application Form (SAF) needs to be submitted to ‘Ilima 102

If you are new to UH-Kapi‘olani or will return after being out a semester, you must fill out the System Application Form.

List your new major as: Liberal Arts (New Media Arts)

STEP #3 : APPLICATION FOR SELECTIVE ADMISSION PROGRAM FORM

The Application for Selective Admission Program Form (ASAP) needs to be submitted to ‘Ilima 102 (for all students)

Indicate NMA as program choice and your proposed NMA specialization - either Animation or Interface Design.

STEP #4 : COMPLETE PREREQUISITE COURSES FOR NMA

NMA Core Requirements:

  • ART 101 Introduction to Visual Arts
  • ART 112 Introduction to Digital Art
  • ART 115 Introduction to Design

Students should be currently enrolled in or have completed these classes by the April 1 deadline.

STEP #5 : COMPLETE PREREQUISITE COURSES FOR YOUR SPECIALIZATION

Animation:

  • ART 107 Introduction to Photography
  • ART 113 Introduction to Drawing
  • Select one:
    • ART 116 Introduction to 3D Composition (formerly ART 106 Introduction to Sculpture)
    • ART 123 Introduction to Painting

Interface Design:

  • ART 107 Introduction to Photography
  • ART 113 Introduction to Drawing

Students should be currently enrolled in or have completed these classes by the April 1 deadline.

STEP #6 : REQUEST OFFICIAL COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS

Request official transcripts from colleges other than UH-Kapi‘olani to be sent directly to the the Kekaulike Information and Service Center (KISC). Submit a "Request for Transcript Evaluation" form. Request a transfer evaluation at least one semester prior to applying for the NMA program. To be considered for transfer, COURSE DESCRIPTIONS must accompany each course taken outside the UH system.

STEP #7 : SUBMIT YOUR PORTFOLIO FOR REVIEW

Portfolio Presentation Specifications (samples of visual work):

  • Work must be submitted in a clearly organized, clean portfolio.
  • Put your name and contact information on the outside of the portfolio.
  • Digital submissions must be submitted on a CD or DVD as .swfs or .jpegs.
  • CD or DVD must be labeled as stated in the requirements for ART 112 submissions.
  • Do not duplicate hard-copy submissions on your CD or DVD.
  • Include no more than three samples per course.
  • No more than two pieces of work completed outside of class may be included.
  • All work should be clearly identified.
  • Do not matt your work unless it is required by the assignment.
  • No rolled work will be accepted.
  • Do not include drawing boards, clamps, grading sheets, project descriptions or
  • newspaper.
  • Bubble wrap will only be accepted if it is used to wrap sculpture.
  • The overall quality of the portfolio presentation will be part of the assessment.

STEP #8 : SUBMIT YOUR PERSONAL ESSAY

  • Submit your personal essay following the instructions stated on the Admissions Procedure Checklist (in Step 1 above).
