Digital Multimedia

Digital Multimedia provides studio experience in multimedia concepts and techniques including video editing, compositing, motion graphic design, sound editing, and multimedia interface design through the creation of time-based works of art.

  1. Familiarize yourself with the NMA stock video collection and audio library.
  2. Begin planning your documentary video. Start by writing down potential ideas, then come up with a concept to execute. Prepare to shoot your own video.
Week 6: Time-based Multimedia Project

  1. Start thinking of project ideas for your midterm.
  2. Write up a film treatment - consider including standard pre-production elements such as a brief project description/synopsis, sketches, a written script, storyboard, etc.).

  1. Watch the video lessons on 3D in After Effects, conduct a few 3D tests in After Effects, then place 320x240 FLV versions of your tests into an html page using SWFObject. See John Doe's 3D AE Tests for an example.
  2. Continue working on your midterm project. Be prepared to show a first draft to me next week.

  1. Watch the video lesson on Cut-out animation in After Effects (Guinness Commercial), conduct a quick test in After Effects, then place a 320x240 FLV version of your test into an html page using SWFObject. See John Doe's Cut-out AE Test for an example.
  2. Convert your previous assignments to FLV format and post them onto your UH website using SWFObject.
  3. Continue working on your midterm project. Be prepared to show a second draft to me next week.
Week 9: Time-based Multimedia Project

Assignment: Time-based Multimedia ProjectDue: Week 10

  • Change of plans for Art 222 Digital Multimedia for the rest of the semester! You have the option to either (choose one):
    1. continue working on what started as your midterm project and now it will be your final project - in this case a draft is due next week and this single/large project will be worth 200 points, or
    2. stop working on the midterm altogether right away, and start a completely new project for the final (200pts) - in this case an animatic/story reel (ie. animated storyboard in motion set to time/audio) would be due next week, or
    3. stay the course as originally planned by finishing the midterm for next week (100pts) and then beginning the final project afterward (100pts).
Week 10: MID-TERM CRITIQUE

  1. Over the break make, continue working on your final project and consider making changes to your project that were suggested during the midterm critique.
  2. Begin working on your first drafts.
